Vets of Steel is a Committee aimed at support current and former service members by fostering camaraderie, providing educational resources and support for veterans and their families, and advocating for veteran-focused issues such as access to earned benefits, fully funded Veterans Administration services, and the creation of family-supporting jobs. The program also encourages members to engage in local union and community activism. Our committee is present in the community honoring those that served and remember the ones that gave all. If you are a veteran and would like to be on the committee please come the monthly union meeting and we will get you started.
Please join us as we volunteer with the Quilts of Valor Foundation to honor veterans who have been touched by war. Each Quilt of Valor is lovingly made and presented to a veteran in recognition of their service, sacrifice, and commitment to our country.
If you plan to attend, please let Vets of Steel Committee Chair Scott Webb know so we can get an accurate volunteer headcount.
Volunteer Schedule:
5:30 PM: Arrive
6:00 PM: Help serve dinner
7:00 PM: Quilts of Valor presentation ceremony
We hope you'll join us in showing our appreciation and support for our nation's veterans.
On July 12, the membership elected to send two veterans to the upcoming Vets of Steel Conference and Training in Minneapolis.
This conference is designed to help build a stronger district-wide Vets of Steel Committee that provides meaningful support, education, and opportunities for service to veteran members.
The resilience training is tailored specifically for veterans and focuses on the unique pressures they face both on and off the job. Through guided conversations and small-group activities, participants will explore mental health awareness, stress management, trauma response, and practical coping strategies.
